A pole star is a visible star, preferably a prominent one, that is approximately aligned with the Earth’s axis of rotation; that is, a star whose apparent position is close to one of the celestial poles, and which lies approximately directly overhead when viewed from the Earth’s North Pole or South Pole. In 3000 BCE, the faint star Thuban in the constellation Draco was the North Star. At magnitude 3.67 (fourth magnitude) it is only one-fifth as bright as Polaris, and today it is invisible in light-polluted urban skies.

A relatively inconspicuous star in the night sky of the Northern Hemisphere, it is historically significant as having been the north pole star from the 4th to 2nd millennium BC. The name “Thuban” is Arab for ‘dragon’ or ‘lizard.’

At any rate, the importance of this star – THUBAN – in the “water dragon” is even more compounded when we consider that it appears that the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Gizeh – the most perfect giant structure in the world – was constructed in such a way that a shaft in the pyramid is aligned precisely to Thuban on or about 2,830 B.C.

The precision of this alignment of this incredibly narrow and extremely long shaft with what was then the Pole Star appears to be anything but coincidental.
